Howard J. Bennett, MD, FAAP
Dr. Bennett spent the first ten years of his professional career in academic medicine, teaching and practicing primary care pediatrics. He was the director of pediatric education during his academic tenure and received the first Outstanding Teacher Award given in his department.
Education and Training
Dr. Bennett attended The George Washington University School of Medicine and completed his pediatric residency at Children’s National Hospital. He joined Chevy Chase Pediatrics in 1991, but continued his academic affiliations and is currently a clinical professor pediatrics at GW.
Special Interests
In addition to having a passion for the day-to-day practice of general pediatrics, Dr. Bennett has a special interest in behavioral pediatrics, bedwetting, asthma, and gastroenterology. His book, It Hurts When I Poop, has been a perennial top seller on Amazon.com since it was published in 2007.
Affiliations and Recognition
Dr. Bennett has been regularly listed as a “Top Doctor” in Washingtonian magazine. He was an Expert Pediatric Advisor for iParenting.com from 2005 to 2007 and has contributed to Q&A columns for Parents Magazine and Contemporary Pediatrics. He is the pediatric consultant for NCRC and the Concord Hill School.

Dr. Bennett created a personal website, www.howardjbennett.com, as a platform for his books. The site also includes medical articles for parents, a blog with shorter medical tips and many of the KidsPost articles he published with the Washington Post from 2008 until 2017.
